Multi-Sector / Sustainable Development
develoPPP Classic Funding, Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). *Launches this month*
Supports socially and environmentally responsible transformation in the private sector in developing countries and emerging markets. Aspects of this include ensuring a sustainable supply chains, climate and environment and the more responsible use of natural resources, as well as fair participation for women in different economic processes, fair access to health care services and long-term food security. Particular consideration is therefore given to project proposals that contribute measurably to improvement in these areas. Companies aiming to contribute to sustainable development in emerging markets are invited to apply. Projects should align with one or more SDGs, in sectors such as agriculture, health, and energy, with a strong emphasis on impact, innovation, sustainable economic development, job creation, technology transfer, and capacity building.
Geographies: Must be in one of the 65 priority countries.
Who can apply: Privately owned and profit-oriented companies, registered in the EU, EFTA or a country on the OECD DAC list, with an annual turnover of at least EUR 800,000.
Funding amount: Up to €2 million.
Deadline: Next round launches February 15, 2025- March 31, 2025. Round 2025 will take place August 15, 2025- September 30, 2025.
KBF Africa Prize 2025-2026, King Baudouin Foundation. *New!*
Every two years, the KBF Africa Prize rewards African organizations which contribute to transforming society and sustainably improving the lives of people in Africa. The KBF Africa Prize rewards African-initiated and led organizations which contribute to sustainably improving the lives of people in Africa. It pays particular attention to initiatives that tackle challenges in Africa in transformative ways, which are resilient and adaptable in a constantly changing context, which have a long-term vision, and which empower people to take their future into their own hands. Organizations working on the themes of peace-building and women's economic empowerment (themes covered by the two previous laureates) are requested to abstain.
Geographies: Africa (organizations from Somalia and Tanzania (countries of the previous laureates) are requested to abstain).
Who can apply: Only organizations which have been established in Africa, by Africans and which are managed and led by Africans can apply.
Funding amount: €250,000.

Open Call for Green Transition Projects, Interreg Euro-MED Programme, European Union.
Interreg NEXT MED is a program funded by the European Union (EU) that supports transnational cooperation through the financing of joint projects which aim at making the Mediterranean area more resilient to the shared challenges it faces. The Call for Green Transition Projects provides €83.7 million in European Union’s funding to tackle climate challenges across the Mediterranean region. Projects that aim to contribute to smart, sustainable, fair development for all across the Mediterranean basin across four program priorities, including research and innovation, climate, energy and water, education and healthcare, and governance.
Geographies: Mediterranean region; Algeria, Cyprus, Egypt, France, Greece, Israel, Italy, Jordan, Lebanon, Malta, Palestine, Portugal, Spain, Tunisia, Türkiye.
Who can apply: Public and private bodies, as well as international organizations. All applicant must be established in the participating countries and legally registered there since at least two years from the launching date of this call.
Funding amount: Co-financing €600,000-€3.1 million. Applicants must provide a minimum of 11% of the total project costs.
Targeted SDGs/ Sectors: Climate and environment, job creation, inclusion, health.

Agriculture, Climate, Environment, Energy & Food
Call for Proposals- Climate Risk Insurance Product, InsuResilience Solutions Fund (ISF). *closing soon!*
Accepting applicants from organizations seeking to develop, improve and/or scale up an insurance product in order to increase the resilience of vulnerable people to climate change. Focus on vulnerable households living on less than 15 USD PPP per capita per day either directly (through micro-level insurance) or indirectly (through meso- or macro-level solutions). Examples for cost items eligible for co-funding: Development of new risk / hazard models, Technical product design incl. actuarial work and pricing, Data collection and equipment, Legal costs, e.g. related to the regulatory framework, policy development, Sales and distribution channel development, Awareness raising activities, IT solutions for product administration and scale up.
Geographies: Countries in Asia and the Pacific, Europe, Africa and Latin America which are eligible to receive official development assistance (ODA).
Who can apply: Applicants must be a consortia of project partners consisting of public and/ or private organizations, with at least one party located and legally registered in the country of implementation and one party representing the demand and needs of vulnerable household.
Funding amount: The ISF provides grant-based co-funding of up to EUR €2.5 million.
Targeted Sectors/ SDGs: Climate change, resilience, vulnerable communities, financial innovation.

The Liveability Challenge with funding from Temasek Foundation. *closing soon!*
Seeking groundbreaking climate solutions from across the world that push the boundaries of innovation. This years challenge features two main themes: 1. Decarbonization- disruptive deep-tech solutions that provide scalable and impactful solutions to reduce carbon emissions across diverse industries (such as waste-to-resource, renewable energy, and energy efficiency). 2. Cool Earth- groundbreaking innovations that specifically address the challenges posed by climate-induced extreme weather conditions (such as heat mitigation, nature-based solutions).
Geographies: Global, Singapore or Southeast Asia (for nature-based solutions).
Who can apply: Projects at or above Technology Readiness Level (TLR) 6 and has already achieved proof of concept. While teams may be based anywhere in the world, the proposed project must be applicable to Singapore or Southeast Asia (for nature-based solutions).
Funding amount: Grants of SGD $1 million to the top two solutions from each themes.
Targeted Sectors/ SDGs: Climate mitigation, decarbonization, nature-based solutions.

Core Fund, The Honnold Foundation.
Now accepting applications to support solar energy initiatives worldwide with marginalized communities, with a special focus on projects that are innovative, grassroots, and community-driven, through it's Core Fund Program. The fund provides unrestricted funding to global solar energy access initiatives that reduce environmental impact and increase social and economic equity.
Geographies: Global. Preference given to the Americas (North, Central, South) and Island-nations anywhere in the world that are highly susceptible to the impacts of climate change (e.g. Caribbean, Indonesia, Vanuatu, Madagascar, etc.).
Who can apply: Non-profits, community-based and/or with a clear community connection.
Funding amount: Grants range USD $25,000- $150,000
Targeted Sectors/ SDGs: Clean energy, solar power infrastructure.

Community Grants: Round 2, Ocean Community Empowerment and Nature (OCEAN). *closing soon!*
Looking to support to projects that are committed to creating lasting change in the marine environment and for coastal communities. Community grants will support innovative proposals from local coastal communities that aim to deliver local solutions to local problems by increasing the capacity of local communities and organizations to tackle marine and poverty issues. Project activities should focus on developing the capacity of local communities and organizations, as well as protecting, managing or restoring the marine environment and reducing poverty. In Round 2, OCEAN will be particularly interested in hearing from projects that place gender equality, disability and social inclusion (GEDSI) at their core. OCEAN is part of the Blue Planet Fund jointly managed by the UK’s Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) and the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) and will run until 2029.
Geographies: Coastal countries from the OECD-DAC list. See full list of eligible countries.
Who can apply: Small and medium sized, local, regional and national organizations, with an annual income of less than £1m. (non-profits and for-profits).
Funding amount: Grant of up to GBP £250,000

Gender Equality & Women Empowerment
Investment in Women's Cooperatives and Associations (Window 2), Africa Enterprise Challenge Fund, AECF. *New!*
Funding is available to cooperatives, associations and other women’s organizations working with commercially active women and women’s groups in Benin and/or Burkina Faso with proven links to women entrepreneurs and/or women-owned businesses. While there are no mandatory value chains, the financing targets value chains where women predominate or provide investment opportunities to enable women to break into value chains where they have traditionally been excluded due to social and cultural norm. The main value chains targeted include (but are not limited to) shea, rice, groundnuts, soybeans, poultry, etc.
Geographies: Benin and Burkina Faso.
Who can apply: Registered cooperative, association, organization, or women’s group that is aligned with the targeted areas of intervention, that can demonstrate 100% female management and a dominant representation of women employees, women entrepreneurs, women agro-industrialists, and/or service providers.
Funding amount: Average funding of CAD $150,000 (to up to 10 organizations). 25% matching funds must be provided by the organization.
Targeted SDGs/ Sectors: Gender equality, women empowerment, climate, jobs created.
Deadline: February 28, 2025.

Global Health
Data for Health (D4H) Initiative - Global Grants Program (GGP), Bloomberg Philanthropies Data for Health Initiative. *New!*
Has launched a new round of funding for projects in the area of Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (CRVS) and Data Use. This funding call includes an optional focus on Digital Strategies for CRVS Systems Strengthening and Data Use. Digital strategies are poised to bridge gaps in global health equity and they welcome applications that also choose to focus on this theme within CRVS and Data Use, including but not limited to the following examples: Digitalizing CRVS systems for improved birth and death registration processes, Establishing interoperability between CRVS systems, health, and/or access to public and private services such as ID, Well-designed dashboards, Data portals, Interactive reports. Projects should be aligned to the objectives of the D4H Initiative: strengthening civil registration and vital statistics systems, using public health data for policy development and program planning, and cancer registration.
Geographies: Low-and middle-income countries that have not received funding from the D4H Initiative.
Who can apply: Ministries of health, statistical agencies, and other relevant agencies at the national, subnational, or municipal levels.
Funding amount: Grant up to USD $100,000 (for 15 months), shorter-term grants with lower award amounts are also encouraged.

Humanitarian Aid and Emergency Programming
Anticipatory Action Accelerator, Humanitarian Venture Lab, Mercy Corps Ventures. *New!*
This initiative seeks to usher in a new era of humanitarian aid, leveraging innovations in tech such as climate data analytics, AI/ML, and crypto payment rails. The Anticipatory Action Accelerator is focused on the intersection of advanced climate analytics, crypto payments, and humanitarian aid. With selected partners, they aim to push the boundaries to improve the lives and livelihoods of underserved users across the Global South.
Geographies: Africa, South and Southeast Asia, Latin America, the Caribbean, the Middle East, Pacific Islands, and Western Balkans.
Who can apply: Startups, NGOs, and more.
Funding amount: Equity-free grants of up to $100,000.
Targeted Sectors/ SDGs: Humanitarian response, climate, vulnerable communities, innovation, crypto.

Informing humanitarian response through research, learning and innovation, Novo Nordisk Foundation. *New!*
The purpose of the open call is to support humanitarian actors and the humanitarian system in identifying, adapting, or integrating research and learning, and innovative approaches to improve the quality of humanitarian response and deliver better outcomes for people affected by humanitarian crises. This open call will focus on improving health outcomes and food security. Preference will be given to applications containing one or more of the following approaches: nexus approach, localization approach i.e. strengthening the capacity and involvement of local organizations and communities in affected countries and furthering more equal partnerships, and approaches to promote inclusion, including gender mainstreaming. Proposed projects must directly relate to the provision of humanitarian assistance in emergencies, disaster prevention and preparedness, or recovery. It may also pertain to the provision of assistance to people affected by protracted and complex crises.
Geographies: OECD DAC List of ODA Recipients in the following geographies: sub-Saharan Africa, Middle East, South Asia, and Ukraine. For the categories Lower Middle Income Countries, the applicant must describe how the project will specifically focus on people in vulnerable situations or affected by crises from one or more of these geographies.
Who can apply: Non-profits only. International humanitarian organizations, with engagements in humanitarian settings in more than one country, are eligible to apply as main applicants. It’s encouraged to engage research or knowledge institutions, local organizations, regional networks or similar as co-applicants.
Funding amount: Grants between DKK 1 million and DKK 5 million for projects lasting up to 2 years. A total of up to DKK 35 million is available.

Request for Proposals: Play Learn Thrive, Grand Challenges Canada and the Lego Foundation. *New!*
Grand Challenges Canada is launching a new portfolio, Play Learn Thrive, to respond to gaps in current Early Childhood Development in Emergencies (ECDiE) and Education in Emergencies (EiE) approaches. This funding call seeks solutions that create more robust support systems for children from birth to 12 years of age in complex crisis settings, with a focus on those who are left behind and whose developmental and educational needs are not being met. Two types of funding are available:
Grand Challenges Canada is launching a new portfolio, Play Learn Thrive, to respond to gaps in current Early Childhood Development in Emergencies (ECDiE) and Education in Emergencies (EiE) approaches. Proof of Concept (POC): POC funding supports early-stage innovations to test and refine bold ideas, in order to strengthen the pipeline of tested ECDiE and EiE innovations that focus on children from birth to 12 years of age in at least one of four countries,
Transition to Scale (TTS)
Funding for more mature innovations that have already achieved proof of concept and are ready to be implemented more widely.
Geographies: Jordan, Lebanon, Kenya, Uganda
Who can apply: Not-for-profit organizations that are legally incorporated in at least one priority country.
Funding amount:
POC grants of up to CAD $250,000, for a maximum of 24 months.
TSS grants between CAD $300,000-$1,500,000 per project, for a maximum of 24 months.
Deadline: POC grants: April 24th, 2025. Transition to Scale (TTS) grants will be accepted on a rolling basis between January 21, 2025 – November 27th, 2025.

Human Rights & Inclusion
Litigation on Digital Rights, Digital Freedom Fund (*Closing this month*)
Is accepting applications from organizations that support strategic litigation on digital rights in Europe that contribute to advancing human rights in the digital context. Funding will support two types of activities – litigation track support and pre-litigation research support.
Geographies: Europe.
Who can apply: Digital rights advocates (e.g. NGOs and other entities that pursue a public interest objective), pro bono lawyers, and other litigators seeking to protect and advance digital rights in Europe, as well as racial, social, feminist, queer, environmental, migrant rights and economic justice movements and organizations working on digital rights.
Funding amount: Grants ranging from EUR €3,000-€100,000.
Targeted Sectors/ SDGs: Human rights, digital rights.
Deadline: Feb 17, 2025.
Addressing Economic and Social Inequalities through Financial Innovation (Local Currency Focus), SDG Impact Finance Initiative. *New!*
This Call for Proposal is designed to support innovative financial solutions to reduce income disparities, ensure equitable access to economic resources, and protect vulnerable populations, with a dedicated focus on addressing the local currency challenge. This includes (a) mitigating exchange rate risks to ensure financial sustainability, (b) encouraging access to long-term financing for local businesses and institutions, (c) aligning funding with local economic conditions to foster stability and growth and (d) supporting local actors in implementing SDG-related projects effectively. Financial Innovation should aim to (a) reduce income disparities, (b) ensure equal access to economic resources and/or (c) promote policies that protect vulnerable populations. Applicants can use the grant for: feasibility studies to evaluate the feasibility of a proposed financial mechanism designed to address a clearly defined problem, or expansion projects to scale an already launched financial mechanism and achieve financial viability.
Geographies: Solutions can target any developing country or countries eligible to receive official development assistance (ODA) according to the OECD-DAC List of ODA Recipients. Preference for solutions that target low-income and least-developed countries.
Who can apply: For-profit and non-profit. Registered impact-focused organizations—such as investment managers, NGOs, and similar entities.
Targeted Sectors/ SDG’s: SDG 1: No Poverty, SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth, SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities
Funding amount: Up to CHF 500,000 (for up to 5 innovators, total envelop of CHF 2 million.

Innovation & Smart Cities
Fit4Future, Fondation Botnar. *Closing this month*
Seeks projects that leverage digital technologies and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to improve the wellbeing of young people, particularly those from marginalized communities. Projects should focus on creating inclusive cities or advancing inclusive education, addressing barriers faced by youth with disabilities, those out of school, or from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. Preference will be given to projects that are deeply rooted in the community and demonstrate strong local ownership.
Geographies: Romania, Ghana, Senegal, Tanzania, Indonesia, Vietnam, Colombia, and Ecuador.
Who can apply: Non-profits and social enterprises registered for at least two years and operating in one of the priority countries
Funding amount: Grants minimum CHF 200,000 (total funding envelope of CHF 3.19 million available for 5-6 projects in this call).
Targeted Sectors/ SDGs: Digital technologies, AI, youth, inclusive cities, education.
Deadline: February 10, 2025.
Open Call for Pilots, European Data Space for Smart Communities. *Last round closes this month*
Aims to advance the development and implementation of data spaces. This effort focuses on the green-digital transformation supported by secure and sovereign data infrastructure. Submitted proposals must also demonstrate actual services created based on data sharing among data space participants. The pilot consortia must create new data services from the data sharing across at least two target focus areas: 1) Predictive traffic management/sustainable mobility planning, 2) Data-services related to weather, climate and extreme weather events to facilitate risk prevention, disaster resilience as well as climate change adaptation, 3)Management of energy flows in a city/community specific context and in conjunction with other sectors, 4) Zero pollution actions (e.g., air, water, soil pollution or waste), and 5) Any other domain falling under the New European Bauhaus initiative (urban design, building management, public services, nature-based solutions, amongst others).
Geographies: Europe.
Who can apply: Eligible pilot consortia must consist of (and be led by) at least two local or regional public administrations from different EU member states (MS) and/or Digital Europe Programme (DEP) Associated countries, and can include a wide range of actors including private sector and non profits.
Funding amount: Grants range EUR €1 million - €1.5 million (total of €15.3 million available).
Targeted Sectors/ SDGs: Smart cities, climate, energy, urban design, public services, nature-based solutions.
Deadline: Final Round closes February 28 2025 (4+ pilots to be selected).
The GSMA Innovation Fund for Impactful AI, GSMA. *New!*
The Fund is interested in solutions that demonstrate the transformative impact of innovative AI and supporting emerging technologies (e.g. computer vision, Internet of Things (IoT), remote sensing, drones, blockchain) to tackle socio-economic and climate-related challenges. The Fund is sector-agnostic, but priority will be given to applications that focus on one or more of the following: 1. Digital solutions that leverage contextual data generated by emerging technologies for training and deploying AI-driven products and services. 2. Digital solutions that leverage predictive and generative AI innovations and show promise to scale and deliver positive socio-economic and/or climate-related impacts. 3. Digital innovations across the value chain, including: AI-driven innovations that directly reach low-income and vulnerable populations and aim to advance socio-economic development and climate action (e.g. HealthTech, AgriTech, ClimateTech, FinTech, EdTech), and AI-driven deep-tech, ecosystem-level innovations [e.g. multimodal large language models (LLMs), edge computing, machine learning, big data] that support local and regional ecosystems for lastmile innovators to deploy AI solutions.
Geographies: Low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) across Africa, South Asia, Southeast Asia and the Pacific
Who can apply: Small and growing enterprises in target regions.
Funding amount: Grant funding ranging from GBP £100,000 to £250,000 for projects lasting 15 – 18 months.
